Pit Stops: Where to Feed the Mini-Monsters
Because hangry children will ruin even the best day out.
An absolute lifesaver if you are exploring the far East side of the island! It is the only pub that far east and sits practically on the doorstep of Cudmore Grove. They have a fantastic, dedicated kids' menu and a lovely, spacious beer garden to let them unwind after fossil hunting.
Hands down one of the best family beer gardens on the island. They have a brilliant outdoor children's playground structure to keep them busy, an excellent kids' menu, and the panoramic adult views looking right out across the Blackwater Estuary are spectacular.
Highly rated by local parents for being incredibly welcoming to little ones. They serve amazing artisanal pizzas made fresh daily, plus incredible truffle fries, right on Coast Road.
Another excellent choice for the East side. They have a full children's breakfast/lunch menu, a lovely contemporary atmosphere, and crucially—a large outdoor sandpit and play area to keep them busy while you wait for food.
The ultimate stress-free beachside stop right opposite the beach huts on Seaview Avenue. High chairs, great kids' options, traditional fish & chips, burgers, and mounds of ice cream. Perfect to grab as a takeaway for the beach.

Essential Local Travel Advisory
The absolute first rule of Mersea Island: Check the Strood crossing times! On major event days like the Regatta, high tide will cause the road to flood. Expect the water to completely cover the causeway for roughly 30 minutes to 1.5 hours either side of high tide, cutting off the island. Plan your crossing well outside this window, and use the live online StroodCam to monitor water levels.
Regatta Parking
Parking near the Town Hard and Coast Road on Saturday 15th August will be heavily congested. Do not attempt to drive down to the waterfront. Use the designated event car parks further inland and enjoy the short walk down to the front.
Lions Festival Free Shuttle Bus
Skip the village traffic on Saturday 22nd August! The Mersea Lions are running a completely free shuttle bus service that loops regularly between West Mersea village centre and Waldegraves Holiday Park throughout the event. If you do choose to drive, free event field parking is available on-site.
