Let's Explore
There are lots of places to explore on the island, here in this guide we have listed some places to be put on your to do list.
The Beaches

Mersea Beaches
On West Mersea, from Seaview to Victoria Esplanade you can access the beach and the beach huts. On East Mersea unless you are staying on one of the holiday parks, the easiest way to access the beach is at Cudmore Grove Country Park. On West you also have the working floating pontoon which you may crab from as long as you follow the guidance as this is a working area for fishermen. You will find the pontoon in Coast Road.
Mersea Island Museum

An independent museum established in 1976 and occupying purpose-built premises that have been steadily expanded. We are in the centre of West Mersea, just to the east of the Parish Church. The traditional local activities of fishing, oystering, wild fowling and boat building are represented. The exhibition in the main hall is new each year and features a number of different displays.
The Packing Shed

A dominant feature of Mersea Island’s shoreline, the Packing Shed is one of its best known landmarks. The Packing Shed was built around 1890 on the island which became to be called Packing Shed Marsh Island. Today, the Shed is used by various organisations, including other local charities as well as individuals, for a variety of outdoor activities including overnight camping, bird watching, art classes, birthday parties, wedding receptions and other special occasions.
Cudmore Grove Country Park

Cudmore Grove Country Park is an amazing nature reserve on Mersea Island covering over 102 acres. Nestled on the coast where the Colne Estuary meets the Blackwater Estuary, you'll find impressive views across the park and estuaries, sandy beaches and salt marsh, rolling grasslands and meadows buzzing with wildlife. There is something for everyone whatever the season at Cudmore, from coastal walks and beach to a themed kid’s play area.
